Smith takes NY State Lead in the 55M at Brockport
Brian Smith of Greece Athena blew the 55m field away at the Brockport Invite with a 6.42 which is the best time run in NY State this season (11th in nation). Smith also won the 300m, finishing the race by looking over both shoulders, then slowing down and stopping right after he crossed the line. Smith said he was saving it for the 4x200m. That might have worked because…

Greece Athena 4x200m (John Hampton, Terrance Harley, Julio Santos, Brian Smith) won with a new Section V season best of 1:32.52 which puts them at 11th in the state.
Eileen O’Hara of Webster Thomas had a big 1500m win running a 4:39.62 (4th best in state this season) which beat Penfield’s Katie Lembo’s season-best of 4:40.71 from the Tiger Invite. Lembo was at the New Balance Games in Boston where she took 5th in the mile with a 5:01.04, which I think converts to about O'Hara's time, so... could be a great 1500M at State Q's if they both decide to focus on that race.

Karmen Auble of Warsaw (state leader) cleared 12’ again to win the girls pole vault, (Auble also won the shot put), but Charlene Kearns of Gates-Chili gave her a push with a nice 11-6 clearance which puts Kearns at 5th on the state leaderboard. And Gates’ vaulters weren’t done with some spectacular vault performances…

Sam Harding of Canandaigua improved his seasons best by a huge 10” to clear 14-4 which puts him at 10th in the state and qualifies him for the Penn Relays. Ryan Ellis of Gates-Chili also PR’d with 14-0 which puts him at 13th in the state.

Maddie Kopp of Spencerport just keeps getting faster and faster. Kopp won the 300m with a 40.77 for the 9th best time in the state this year. She also took 2nd in the 55m where, absent the presence of Edison Tech’s Demonica Stanley…
Imani Obieki of Edison Tech won the 55m at 7.32 to Kopp’s 7.33 which puts them at 12th and 13th on the state leaderboard, still behind Stanley’s 7.24 at 3rd. Stanley won the long jump with a 16-8.

Josh Hannah of Aquinas ran a 1:23.23 in the 600m to beat his own seasons best and move to 14th on the state leaderboard.
Mickey Burke of Rush-Henrietta ran a 2:33.69 to win the 1000m (18th in state) and take over the seasons best from Tim Pease of Athena.
Alex Kober of Webster Schroeder extended her seasons best in the triple jump to 35-9 (21st in state).
