Noble and Thomas come close to records in 60m, Lantrip jumps 5-4, Johnson throws over 50

New events, new facilities! There are three new events this season.  60m dash and 60m hurdles (in place of 55m) and the weight throw. Plus a great new facility at Houghton College.

Records had been established for all these events in the past by athletes competing at various invitationals and nationals.

CJ Noble of Greece Olympia and FRESHMEN Lanae-Tava Thomas of Rush-Henrietta both blasted open the season with times of 6.97 and 7.75.  Noble’s time was close to the Section V record of 6.93 set by Maurice Jackson of Marshall in 1996, and Thomas’s time was close to the Section V record of 7.71 set by Zila Higgs (who also holds the 55 record) of East in 1991.

Aubrianna Lantrip of Midlakes blew the field away with a 5-4 high jump which will rank very high in the state once everyone has started competing.

Christian Johnson of Victor heaved open the season with a 50+ shot put, 50-09.50 for what looks to be a strong year for the boys throws.

Rush-Henrietta’s Watson sisters opened up strong with big sister Ceara winning the 600 and little sister (and new xc star) Sammy winning the 1000 and taking 2nd in the high jump.

Megan Curtin of Wayland-Cohocton also started strong running the 3000 in 10:55.32 for the best time of the weekend by almost a 30 second margin and taking 2nd to Ceara in the 600.

Olivia Harbol of PalMac at 7:38.07 and  Afton Minavio of Rush-Henrietta at 7:39.79 took the early spot on the leaderboard in the 1500m Racewalk.

A couple big long jumps with Alex Siracusa of Churchville-Chili jumping 21-5 and Justin Sanders-Schifano of Sodus at 17-6.

Penfield did well in the relays with the best times of the weekend for boys and girls 4x800 and their toughest battle in the girls 4x200 where SOTA lead all the way until Penfield's anchor Abby Frank caught them at the finish line.
