50th McQuaid Invite - 2014
At Hilton's Glavin 2 mile last spring Corning freshmen Jessica Lawson nearly upset Katie Lembo with an amazing last lap kick. Now this spring as a sophomore Lawson has truly come into her own winning the McQuaid Invite Girls Seeded Varsity AAA (3-mile) by over 30 seconds with the fastest time of the day for any race with an all-time course record of 16:43.3 good enough to rank 9th in the nation for the 3-mile.
Andrew Marston of Conestoga won the Boys Seeded Varsity AAA with a 14:31.3 which the fastest time of the day for any race.
Fayetteville-Manilus of Syracuse was the team to beat in both boys and girls. Elmira’s girls beat Fayetteville-Manilus in the Girls Seeded Varsity AAA 67-71, but in the merged results F-M beat Elmira 107-108. Elmira had the faster average time 18:04.4 to 18:05.8. For the boys F-M won the Boys Seeded Varsity AAA and had the best scores and lowest times (15:03.06 average) in the merged results.
Among Section V runners the usual suspects were on top with Pittsford Mendon Boys taking 2nd in the Boys Seeded Varsity AA to Xavier of NYC in a tight finish of 87-89. Mendon was 7th overall in merged results.

While the boys top 7 shuffled around considerably since last week, the top Section V girl was still Alex Cooper of Rush-Henrietta taking 6th in the Girls Seeded Varsity AAA and 7th in the merged at 17:41.7. Cooper was awarded the Katie Harper Memorial Plaque. This week sophomore Anna Kostarellis of Churchville-Chili narrowed the gap between Cooper and the rest of Section V winning the Girls Unseeded Varsity AA-2 by over 50 seconds with a 17:48.0. With sophomores in the 2nd, 3rd and 7th positions among top Section V girls fiinishers, the future looks strong!

This week Webster Thomas was the top Section V girls team taking 5th in the Girls Seeded Varsity AAA and 6th in merged results and they were the only team to manage a sub-19 average time at 18:57.9.

Last week the top 7 Section V boys were Schmitt, Hess, Servos, Goodman, Burton, Glavin, Roach. This week those results were completely shuffled and completely missing from last week was Nick Neamtu of Webster Thomas who came out decisively on top among Section V boys at McQuaid with a 15:03.6 which was nearly 30 seconds over the next best Section V boy Donovan Glavin of McQuaid Jesuit. Neamtu was awarded the Charlie McMullen Memorial Plaque.
