Freshman Erica Ellis breaks Section V Pole Vault Record

Lawson and Dellinger take Glavin

From the music, to the lights, to the featured Glavin 3000/3200, the Hilton Saturday Night Showdown is always a highlight of the Outdoor season.

Erica Ellis, freshman, of  Gates-Chili broke the Section V record in the pole vault with a state leading vault of 12’8”.  The record was last set by Karmen Auble of Warsaw at this same meet three years ago. 

The Glavin Races are the premier invitational 3000/3200 in Western New York and they were thrilling as always.  Jessica Lawson of Corning ran the 3rd fastest time in the nation with a 9:30.17 for the win.  The top Section V runner was Amanda Vestri of Webster Thomas in 3rd at 9:57.64. Thirteen girls ran below 10:35.  

For the boys Paul Dellinger of Brighton ran a 9:18.99 (NYS4) to take another epic Glavin.  Thirteen boys ran under 9:38.

 

Ray Anikwue (Letchworth), Noah Williams (McQuaid), and Tremaine Moore (Olympia) clock the first sub-11 FAT times of the year with Anikwue winning the Showdown at 10.80 (NYS2).  Anikwue also won the 200 at 21.76.

Makayla Binter of Greece Arcadia won the Pentathlon with a 2818 (NYS3).   The previous night however at the Victor Twilight Aubrianna Lantrip of Midlakes scored a 2951 for the top rank in the state.

Terry Taylor of Greece Olympia won the pole vault with a SVSB 14-6 (NYS3)

McQuaid's Boys 4x400 team ran a blazing 3:23.87 (NYS9)

Tony SanGregory of Warsaw set a SVSB in the 400 Hurdles with a 57.60 (NYS13).

Chima Dingba of Greece Athena set a SVSB in the 100 Hurdles at 15.42 (NYS21)

Many athletes came from outside of Section V but none more spectacular than Sam Wray of Starpoint who threw the discus 191-02 for the top throw in the state and 19th best in the nation.  

The throwers from Buffalo weren’t even done there, as Colin Blair of Lancaster threw the shot 62-00.

Other Results

Kelly Brown of Wilson set an SVSB of 14.72 in the 110 Hurdles (NYS5) at the Lancer Invite.

Lukas D’Alfonso of Rush-Henrietta clocked the first sub-50 400 at 49.57 (NYS7) at the Hornell Invite.

Brandon Burke of Byron-Bergen high jumped 6-7 (NYS3) at a home dual meet on April 27th.
