State Qualifiers
Lanae-Tava Thomas, Kelly Brown, Sammy Watson, Mike Mallow, Tobi Tella, Erica Ellis and Kyle Rollins going to states ranked #1
It’s going to be a strong year for Section V at the New York State Championships!
Lanae-Tava Thomas of Rush-Henrietta tied the Section V record in the 100 set 25 years ago by Zilla Higgs of East at 11.88, she also lowered her own Section V record in the 200 to 23.74. Lanae ranked number 1 in two events, the long jump and 200, and ranked 2nd in the 100, plus Rush-Henrietta’s 4x100 is ranked 4.
Kelly Brown of Wilson Magnet qualified in 3 events and is ranked 1 in 200m, 2 in 110 Hurdles, and 5 in the 100m.
Sammy Watson of RH qualified in two events and is ranked 1 in the 400 and 11 in the 1500. (her 4:49.56 1 Mile converts to a 4:28.19 which would rank 5)
Mike Mallow of Fairport ran 1:53.11 in the 800 to take the top state ranking.
Tobi Tella of McQuaid boomed a 50-00.50 in the triple jump for the top state ranking.
Kyle Rollins of Geneseo holds the top state ranking in the Pentathlon
Jenna Berry of Pittsford Mendon high jumped 5-6 to rank NYS 3.
Brandon Burke of Byron-Bergon won the high jump and his earlier season mark is NYS 3
Erica Ellis, freshmen from Gates-Chili, won the pole vault in an historically strong year for girls pole vault with three girls clearing 11-6 at State Q’s (Ellis, Earnie Burapan, and Hannah Roof), and 6 girls over 12’ in the state. Ellis enters the state meet with the top ranking however at 12-8, also tied for 2nd best freshmen in the entire United States.
Terry Taylor of Greece Olympia is going in the pole vault ranked 3rd, Nate Crane of Letchworth, who has the top vault in the state, no-heighted, he might have gone anyway, but his teammate Kyle van Slyke had made the qualifying standard earlier in the season and beat Nate at state qualifiers.
Emily Lavarnway of South Seneca won the Pentathlon is ranked 4th in the state.
Leah Hulbert of Rush-Henrietta threw a huge PR in the discus of 132-04 to raise her rank to 5th in the state, she also won the shot put.
Aubrianna Lantrip of Midlakes won the triple jump and is ranked 7th in the state, she is also going in the high jump.
