Watson and Thomas lead nation and break records

Sammy Watson (junior) and Lanae-Tava Thomas (sophomore) of Rush-Henrietta traveled to NYC for the Armory Invitational this weekend.

On Friday night Watson won the 1000M race with a 2:45.32 which breaks her own Section V record, and breaks the New York State record (unless you count Mary Cain’s performances as a professional), and is the top time in the USA for high school girls.  By the USATF list the time ranks 9th in the US this year (including pros and college).

On Saturday Watson won the 600M race with a 1:30.08 to take the top time in the state and nation and break her own Section V record from earlier this season.

Watson lost one record this weekend though… teammate Lanae-Tava Thomas took 2nd in the 300m with the second fastest time in the nation, fastest in the state, and broke Watson’s Section V record in the 300m (39.34) with a 38.38.  (so now Watson only has the Section V records in the 600, 800 and 1000).  Thomas still has the top time in the nation for the 55m at 6.90

Back at home, Section V was competing at RIT…

Aubrianna Lantrip of Midlakes high jumped 5-6 for an SVSB and NYS3 (5-way tie).  The state leader is a 2-way tie at 5-7 so... state champs should be great, if they have a 5-6 to 5-8 progression you could see a 7-way tie for first ;)

Alecszandre Burger of Romulus high jumped 6-4, not quite the SVSB 6-6 that Connor Spiegel of Webster Thomas has, but good enough for NYS8 (4-way tie)

Ben Bulkeley (sophomore) of Fairport took over the SVSB from Eddie Ely (Pal Mac) in the 600m with a 1:22.89 (NYS10)

Andrew Palermo (sophomore) of Spencerport threw the weight 55-05.25 (NYS12) to take over the SVSB from Anthony Ray of Batavia.

Asia McInnis (junior) of Greece Arcadia triple jumped 37-01.25, not quite the SVSB by Lanae-Tava Thomas, but good enough for NYS12.

Elie Pauly of Hilton lowered her SVSB in the 1500 Racewalk to 7:27.93 (NYS13)

Natalie Neamtu (junior) of Webster Thomas lowered her own SVSB in the 1500 to 4:44.89 (NYS16)

Elsa Cole (junior) of Fillmore ran a 10:28.24 for the 3000m lowering the SVSB by 10 seconds from Amanda Vestri’s (Webster Thomas) mark.
